Silent Voices Meets Derek Acorah

Silent Voices Meets Derek Acorah

Hi Derek, Thank you for doing this interview for Silent voices.

We often hear you mention ‘Sam’ For our readers can you tell us who Sam is and when did Sam 1st come to you?

Sam is my Spirit Guide with whom I have had an association for over 2000 years. In a previous incarnation I was a young boy in Ethiopia and Sam was my mentor. I passed to spirit at quite a young age in that incarnation, and Sam swore that we would never be parted.

Have you any plans this year to release any more books/CDs/DVDs?

I am working on two books at the moment but they will not be for release this year unfortunately. There will be more DVD’s coming along - I have no doubt about that - but again, it will be next year.

Where can our Readers find you on the TV this year?

I pop up all over the place really. Most Haunted programmes in which I have featured are still being broadcast and of course there is the Sky Real Lives programme “Derek Acorah”. I have been a guest on many programmes this year - my latest project is a cameo role in a film.

Can our readers find you in any of the main stream magazines?

I write a regular column in “Take A Break & Fate and Fortune”. I seem to have been appearing quite regularly in OK magazine too.

What’s has been the most memorable experience in your work?

Working on Paranormal Egypt. I was privileged to be allowed in to some of the places I investigated.

You have travelled to many places world wide with your work, what place in the world have you enjoyed the most that left a lasting impression on you?

I would have to say Egypt because it was so different to the ancient sites I normally investigate and had it’s own mysticism that I have never experienced elsewhere.

Have you always been aware and accepting of your gift and how old were you when you realised what was happening too you?

I first became aware of my psychic abilities when I was a six year old child when I saw my late grandfather in my grandmother’s home.

What has been your best and worst ‘wow’ or ‘knowing’ moment and how did/were you able to give this when received?

Every moment of my experience communicating with Spirit has been and still is special. I never cease to wonder and be grateful for my ability to communicate with the world beyond.

In your experience, do all spirits return to a place of love and light? Have you encountered spirits that seemed to inhabit a place of alienation and/or darkness?

In the majority of cases, once a person has crossed over to the world beyond, they go to a heavenly state. There are very rare occasions when a spirit soul inhabits a dark place, but this is usually through their own choice because they have committed evil deeds whilst inhabiting the earth and are afraid to progress in to the light for fear of what will happen to them.

Being a Medium you talk to those who have crossed over and spirits. Do you remember ever pasting on a message that was intense and emotional for you personally?

As a medium, I pick up the emotions of the recipient of the message. In some cases those emotions can be very strong. It is also the case that the spirit person can be emotional and again, those feelings are transported to me.

How do you separate your feelings from the spirits and the person who wants you to contact the spirit?

I do this in the same way that anybody separates emotions from one individual to another. If you were with friends, you have no difficulty in separating the feelings from one to another. It is exactly the same with people when they are in spirit… they are separate entities.

Spiritualism in its broadest context has gained much publicity and far more acceptance over the last decade. A lot of this has been through an increase in media programmes, publications and talented people like yourself. Where do you see the overall acceptance of mediumship and spiritualism as a true religion in five years time?

I don’t feel that there is any non-acceptance of Spiritualism generally. As you say, it has become more popular now because there is less mysticism attached to the belief system. Although the numbers are less than, say, the Catholic or Protestant religions I don’t see that Spiritualism will be any more accepted than it is now. There is bigotry and non-belief with all religions. Spiritualism is no different.

In your view what would you say are the positives and negatives of the increased media exposure to spiritualism in general ... and do you think the media portray the correct message and knowledge?

I feel that much of the media coverage rather trivialises Spiritualism in that it has become embroiled in and confused with the ghost hunting scenario and “fortune telling”. This is not Spiritualism of course which is a belief system and totally separate from psychic abilities.

What spurs you on today to continue in your work and do you have any goals over the coming years IE do you have any ambitions to go further with your abilities?

A medium never stops learning and so whether or not I have any ambitions in furthering my abilities is beyond my control. My goal in life is to help as many people as I possibly can through my gift.

Work and personally, what would you like for the future ?

I would like to carry on working for Spirit for as long as they wish me to. Beyond that, I would wish for a peaceful and happy life with my loved ones around me.

Thank you Derek, we at Silent voices wish you good luck and best wishes for the future
