Lapis Lazuli

I am often asked about angels and crystals for protection and especially how to protect yourself from the ‘evil eye’ and poisonous thoughts of others. so this month I want to dedicate my article to this important subject.

One of the angels greatest roles is to protect us. The mighty Archangel Michael is the protector of humanity. He is responsible for the South, gateway to the hysical, truth, trust and innocence. The affirmation Archangel Michael suggested is “The world is a safe and nurturing place”. As you use this affirmation visualize, see, feel or know that Archangel Michael is always there to catch you if you fall, to shield you with his blue cloak of protection,to stand beside you when you are afraid. You can visualise Archangel Michael’s Sword of Protection and Truth as either gold metal or a living sapphire-blue flame. A crystal that links very well with Archangel Michael is Lapis Lazuli which brings clarity, faith and serenity. Use the affirmation “I allow the spirit of truth to set me free”. Always remember Archangel Michael needs your permission to protect you. Ask Archangel Michael and his ‘Legion of Light’ for their help when your frightened nd alone. Ask and they will be with you. You can ask Archangel Michael to protect family members and it is OK to ask Archangel Michael to watch over and protect others too.

Now for the science bit:

Lapis Lazuli Chemical Composition: (Na, Ca)8 (Al,Si) 12 O 24 (S,SO4) Crystal System: Cubic Hardness: 5.5 Lapis lazuli, or lapis for short, is mostly lazurite, but commonly contains pyrite and calcite. The rich blue colour is due to the sulphur that is inherent in the structure of lazurite. Small crystals of pyrite are always present in lapis and their brassy yellow colour is both attractive and diagnostic in distinguishing lapis from its also blue cousin ‑ sodalite rock, which lacks pyrite and is much cheaper. The calcite produces white streaks in the lapis and too much calcite will lower the value of the stone. Lower grades of Lapis are frequently crushed, rebounded with resin and dyed to be sold at a higher price. Genuine Lapis Lazuli has a whitish glow when under ultraviolet light.

History: The beautiful blues in paintings from the Renaissance are thanks to the blue of lapis, the blue rock cherished by the ancients, from Mesopotamia to Egypt, to Persia, to Greece and Rome. The ancient city of Ur had a thriving trade in lapis as early as the fourth millennium BC. It was prized by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt, whose craftsmen used to make treasures such as scarabs and magical eye-shaped amulets. The golden sarcophagus of King Tutankhamen is inlaid with Lapis, as were the burial ornaments of other Egyptian kings and queens. Lapis was also a stone of royalty in ancient Sumer. Buddhist beliefs suggest Lapis as a stone to bring inner peace and freedom from negative thoughts. The name is international, from the Latin, lapis, which means stone, and from the ancient Persian word lazhuward, which means blue. When lapis was first introduced to Europe, it was called ultramarinum, which means ‘beyond the sea’. Ground lapis was the secret ingredient of the blue in ultramarine, the pigment which painters used to paint the sea and the sky until the nineteenth century. The Romans believed that lapis was a powerful aphrodisiac. In the Middle Ages it was thought to keep the limbs strong and free the soul from error, envy and fear.

Keywords: Spirit of Truth

Spiritual: Lapis is a high intensity etheric blue stone. It contains the energies of royalty, wisdom, patience, truth, mental attainment, good communication, contentment, artistic inspiration, deep meditation, spiritual and philosophical contemplation, personal integrity and loyalty.

Mentally: Lapis is excellent in assisting with releasing a person from emotional bondage and mental suffering. It quickly draws anxieties to the surface. Psychologically: Lapis helps to develop the virtues of truth, honesty and faith. If you need immediate protection from low-energy entities, or feel you are under psychic attack or have been cursed or feel a victim of the evil ‘eye’, Lapis will give you a cloak of protection and safety. Emotional: Lapis gives relief from pain, both physical and psychological, and combats cruelty and brutality. Lapis is an interesting stone to meditate with, as its high intensity etheric nature means you really have to reach high to bring your energy into line with its refined vibration. It contains a higher order of intelligence and wisdom, ‘intellectual integrity’.

Physical: Lapis lazuli will heal an unbalanced throat chakra. How you tell if the throat chakra is un-balanced by being too open or spinning too fast: the person is over-talkative, dogmatic, self-righteous or arrogant. If the throat chakra is too closed, or spinning sluggishly, the person is unreliable, holds inconsistent views and holds back from self-expression. Lapis works on the thyroid, parathyroid’s, the throat, upper lungs and arms, the base of the skull and body weight.

Magic: Lapis Lazuli is associated with truth and justice as it promotes steadfastness and personal courage.

Meditation: Lapis teaches you to reach for the stars and looking at lapis reminds you of a summer night’s sky. The small crystals of pyrite which are always present in lapis and the streaks of white calcite produce starry pictures, which will aid your intuition. The white calcite brings in the energies of the crown chakra and the yellow pyrite brings in the energies of the solar plexus chakra to activate, energize, align and integrate the throat chakra.

Crystal Placement: Place Lapis on the forehead (third eye chakra) to promote deep insight and memory recall. Also, wear as a pendant for prolonged periods to get the benefits of this amazing stone. Never, however wear Lapis for prolonged periods if you suffer from low blood pressure.

Additional Information: Lapis also heals the martyr syndrome: ‘I am going to punish myself in order to make you suffer’. Lapis aids discrimination of wisdom; it is very penetrating and does not suffer fools gladly, or those who are fooling around with other people’s spirituality. Past-life connections to ancient Egypt, are often stimulated with Lapis. It is the stone of the spiritual seeker of truth.

Affirmation: “I allow the spirit of truth to set me free”.

Cleansing: Hold the stone under running water for several minutes and visualise imbalances flowing away. Then put in the sunlight to dry.

Angel: Archangel Michael Archangel Michael’s name means ‘Who can stand against God’ Mighty Archangel Michael is the protector of humanity, the supreme commander-in-chief of all the archangels and he leads the heavenly forces, his ‘legions of light’, against evil (the demonic-inspired human vices of anger, hatred, negativity, cruelty, hostility and conflict). He can be view as our supreme guardian angel. Archangel Michael is a being of magnificent, awe-inspiring glory and radiant light, who is frequently depicted riding a white horse (representing pure, pristine, spiritual power), thrusting a lance into a writhing serpent. This is Archangel Michael symbolically slaying the lower aspects of the human personality; our self-destructiveness where fear and restriction reside, and allowing for the higher-mind connection of the soul to emerge phoenix-like, as the winged dragon of ultimate wisdom.
